I haven't had business cards since I've worked for my current company. They're free, but I've just never bothered to ask for them. Today I my supervisor told me he put some business cards on my desk. That's not so bad, I thought, because there have been a couple of occasions where it would have been convenient to have them. I went back to my to my desk to check them out.
(warning, the following is probably me just being overly picky, and will probably make no sense to any of you, and you'll just wonder what the big deal is. It's actually not a big deal, but it is something to blog about.)
All the information on the business card is correct except for my job title. It says I'm a "Principle Network and Systems Administrator". Administrator? I don't administrate anything. I'm an senior network engineer, I engineer things. Administrators administrate what the engineers engineer. That's like giving a senior doctor a business card that says "Principle Nurse". Not that nurses aren't important or smart, it just wouldn't be an accurate discription for what the doctor does.
I pointed the title out to my supervisor when I saw him in the hall later, and, in jest, told him my business cards demoted me. He said he'd have the company correct them, but I told him not to worry about it. I mean, I really don't care that much since I didn't ask for them to begin with. Maybe I'm weird, but I don't think I'll be handing them out to anybody though because of the title being wrong. Is that bad?

Hoorah! http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_9272332
Unfortunately, for the rest of us in the bible belt, there isn't much hope...
Since selling my Porsche a few weeks ago, I've been agonizing over what kind of car to replace it with. I've considered every brand of used car available, and everything from the junkie versions of those cars with higher mileage, to the nicer ones with low mileage. In the end I finally decided on a 2005 325ci BMW w/23k miles. It still has a year left of it's original warranty, and since it's a BMW certified pre-owned car, it comes with an extended warranty that covers the car until 2011 or 100k miles, whichever comes first (hopefully 2011). When I lived in Germany, I bought a new 2000 323i BMW and really liked it, but I sold it shortly after moving back to America. Since then I've on and off thought about getting another one, especially since the 3-series consistently ranks as one of the best used cars in it's class.
For me it was a good compromise. Practical enough to drive to work everyday (27mpg so far), but yet nice enough to be a date car for when Janie and I go out. Plus I'm sure it'll get the Steve Betz seal of approval, which really, when you think about it, is what really matters. Janie named her Natalie....
Of course, I’m talking about the new Death Cab For Cutie album, Narrow Stairs, which was released this week – because nothing says cheerful like Death Cab.
By my analysis, the album breaks down like this:
Disillusionment: 3 songs
Empty relationships, settling: 4 songs
Stalking: 1 song (technically two, one radio-version, one long-version)
Life post-break-up/hitting rock-bottom: 2 songs
California wildfires: 1 song
Any yes, the wildfire song is the most uplifting of the bunch.
These songs in general seem more produced than on their last (fantastic) album “Plans”. Overall, it’s a good collection – incorporating the interesting musical twists and carefully wrought lyrics that fans have come to expect.
After my initial listenings, I think it falls a little short of “Plans” because this collection lacks enough examples of the wry-dark-humor so well captured in songs like “Someday (You Will Be Loved)” and “Crooked Teeth”.
My early favorites are the stalkerriffic song, “I Will Possess Your Heart” (which has been pre-releaesed for a little while) and a great song “Cath…” about a bride settling for an empty marriage.
Grab yourself a couple fingers of scotch and hope that you don’t recognize yourself in this album’s songs.
I have absolutely nothing worthwhile to say on this fine Thursday morning.
What are your top five break-up songs?

I don't really know about five, but this song is really one of my favorites -- full of snarky goodness. The Beloved says I like it so much because I used to treat women like this, but we all know that's not true.
Also notable because Death Cab just released their latest album, Narrow Stairs, yesterday -- so I've been all DCFC today.
