Bedtime Craziness

So James goes to bed around 8pm each night - at least that's when we put him in his crib. He may choose to stay awake talking, screaming, singing...whatever until 9pm or so.

Tonight he was relatively quiet and I was sure he was already asleep by 8:45pm. I'm in my office working away when I hear this horrendous sounding screaming cry - like he had somehow fallen out of bed or something. I rush upstairs and when I walk in his room, he has his blanket over his head and is screaming bloody murder. I realized that he put it there and couldn't quite get it off. He looked like a little ghost and it was so funny except that he was totally crying real tears! Thankfully his blanket is actually a little afghan that his Gigi crocheted for him so there was plenty of air holes for breathing. I took the blanket off his head and he laughed and smiled at me. It was pretty funny. I wish I could have snapped a little photo!

Inspired by Le Madeline

I've never had French food..well except for their fries, their dressing, their bread and their toast..they're all pretty good but I thought I'd take it up a notch because I burned grilled cheese yesterday and my self-esteem was a little bruised.

We don't have any French restaurants around here but I've heard rave reviews for Le Madeline so I took a look at their menu. For a French restaurant, they sure have a lot of Italian stuff. Pesto's and pasta's and florentine's.

Here's what I came up with..

Dinner

Chicken Crepes Florentine with my own made up version of Marchand De Vin sauce because that called for beef broth and red wine, which I didn't think went well with chicken. Plus it has ham in it and that's DeWitte's favorite food. DeWitte and Nathan said it tasted just like shrimp..go figure.

Wild Rice Provencal, which is just a fancy way to say wild rice cooked in chicken broth with some extra veggies thrown in for color and flavor.

And Green Bean Almondine, which I like because it rhymes.

I even bought mini eclairs for dessert.

Four hours and one self-esteem back on track later and here we are. Now I've gotta go back and try that grilled cheese again.

A Mid(Atlantic)summer (fort)Night’s Dream

Alright – we’re off (very early tomorrow morning) for our summer family tour! We’re heading back to the East Coast for almost two weeks. The main reason to go is for the Beloved’s folks’ 50th wedding anniversary – we’re meeting them at one of their favorite places on the “Northern Neck” of Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay. Should be fun – that’s a part of the Bay I’ve never seen before.

Midatlanticism

Before that though, we’ve scheduled a brief visit with my brother in NJ and a longer one with my sister in MD (I still haven’t seen her new place that she moved into last Spring, mostly because I didn’t go back for Christmas/New Year’s last year…). And, of course, we’re going to cram in as many visits with friends as we can get. Should be hectic (and a lot of driving…), but we want to make the most of it.

We’ll probably have pretty spotty internet contact, so don’t drop me from your neighborhoods because I’m not commenting or posting, or force-quit our scrabulous games because they’ve gone “inactive”.

I am currently on the long, lonely walk of ~~loneliness~~ no motivation.

I don't want to go to the gym. I don't want to eat healthy. I don't want to drink green tea.

(Since I didn't go to the gym today, though, I am eating healthy and drinking green tea. I know that I'm not magically going to wake up thin and pretty tomorrow, but I am telling myself that I have go to the gym or drink green tea, but I can't get out of doing both--I have to do one or the other.)

About the only thing I have going for me right now is that I get to see The Dark Knight and the X Files tomorrow. (And oh, aren't we all ready for me to stop discussing the double feature?)

I need a pep talk and for all the local Chipotles, Boston Markets and pizza places to disappear. (And if I could somehow be convinced that exercise is awesome fun, that'd be good, too.)

But it's okay. I'm still making healthy food choices (until tomorrow, when I get a small popcorn) and I'll start over with the gym next week.
