Heartbreaking

Ashley just came inside and proceeded to take out all of our art supplies, "I'm making a card for Fantasia to make her feel better."

"Oh, is she sick?" I asked.

"No, her mom died. She had to leave school early."

What do you say to that? I just wanted to leave the room and cry.

I don't know what you say. Nathan came home(not today, of course) and told me his friend finally came back to school. I asked if she was sick and he said that, no, her little sister had died. All I could do at first was blink!

Maybe send flowers.

It's bad enough we have to deal with that stuff as adults, but kids having to go through that just seems wrong. Ashley just told me a little while ago that it was her real mom, not her adopted mom. Not sure what that means, but it's still sad.

How horrible! Was it sudden?

Oh Janie --- how sad that a young girl has to deal with that. But I think Ashley is to be commended -- it sounds like she had the right instinct for what to do for her friend.
