Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut

Comments

They are ok, but watch them for worms... Little white ones...
Ok, that is just too much work for me. I thought I could just use them like other tree nuts. So much for that chocolate acorn biscotti I had in the oven.
LOL. that's great.
Wow, good link. I forgot about the tannic acid part. That was how they used to cure the buffalo hides too. The acid removed all the natural oils too, so when the hides were done tanning, they had to work oils back in to them.
[this is good]
Yay! You posted about it. When do we get to hear about Adam what's-his-face? I'd type more but I just got back from Sarah's, learned four more chords, and my fingers are about to fall off. ):
Yeah, it does sound like a lot of work...but how can you pass up some Venison Acorn Stew?!? :)

Everytime I see an acorn, I will think of you and your Acorn Tasting :)
I'll think of stew... MMmmmm... Meat Stew....
ewwwww. worms! i guess i'll never sample acorns. heh.
Sometimes you ARE a nut! But I still love ya! And chocolate acorn biscotti? I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Blech.

Oh -- I'm late -- I was going comment that a lot of native Americans used acorns to make flour. Supposed to be pretty high in nutrient value, but rob-p beat me to it... :)

You know...I've always sensed that you were a bit different from the rest of us, and now I'm convinced. Acorns???? Acorns???? Let me know how those cookies turn out. :-)
And also the kid in My Side of the Mountain makes them into pancakes. Ummmm. Yummy!
I love acorns! So does my dad, I think :D Squirrels are cool.
I confess, I was taking a "nature walk" with the kids two days ago and while picking up acorns I wondered why nobody seems to eat them since we have so many. I wanted to try a bite but I couldn't find any without those worms in them!

it seems all across Maryland people are considering the acorn this week ;)
