Vox Hunt: The History of My Hair

Not much happening here. I can't even claim I am posting it because I was a cute baby. Steve has likened me to Gollum. Isn't he sweet?

 

 

I'm the little one in the top picture. The oldest blonde is Nicole and the girl in pigtails next to me is my other sister, Marlen. The other picture is me stuffing my face during Thanksgiving dinner. Obviously I started my love affair with food way back then.

 

Me circa 1988, sporting a mullet. I would like to say it isn't, but sadly, it is. Yes, I am admitting, I had a mullet.

 

Oooooh, my bangs are high and my hair is tightly permed. Once upon a time I had straight hair and longed for curly locks.

You can't see it here, but my hair is tightly pulled into a way trendy banana clip. C'mon, admit it, all you gals had a banana clip, didn't you? The lovely orangish hue was brought to you by peroxide, the cheap teenager's Sun-In.

 

The peroxide is growing out and the bangs are in the midst of a "grow out". Yeah, this is bad. This was also during a 10 year time of my life where I didn't wear pants due to religious reasons. Sadly, I thought I looked really good. I remember going out to the mall with my friends that night. I thought I was looking pretty darn good. Well, not darn good. Darn is a euphemism for damn and I would have never used a word that was that close to cussing.

 

No, I didn't make a mistake with this file name. I was a month shy of 18 the first time I tied the knot. I wasn't pregnant, just stupid. So were my parents. Something you didn't know, my dad is Bob Newhart. Oh, and I styled my hair myself. Don't think I did too bad of a job.

 

Ok, I was pregnant in this one, just a couple of months. Don't I look thrilled?

 

Still not wearing pants. Those dresses were quite flattering, wouldn't you say? Guess my hair wasn't that different.

 

22, and ready to bust with my second child. Sporting a scrunchie. Now that is a classic hairstyle. You may not have had a banana clip, but I bet you had a ton of scrunchies.

 

Cut off all my hair and lost the baby weight too! Go me!

 

 

 

 

This is just all around bad. I had always wanted to be a blonde. I suppose I was getting close at this point. I also had a baby between the last picture and this one. Wasn't doing as good with losing the baby weight that time around.

 

New haircut and new glasses. Better than those huge ones I sported during the 90s.

 

 

Finally achieved a decent looking blonde in the Summer of '03. My dream come true. I did this at home. Sadly I continued to attempt to keep it up myself so it quickly became "bleach blonde"

 

When I met Steve, I was a blonde. He wanted me to go back to brunette. I did this at home, by myself. Somehow, it didn't turn green or fall out. This was the last time I dyed my hair.

 

 

Still short. I decided to grow it out shortly after this. Tired of the upkeep.

 

Because you have to do something with your hair while it's in that in between phase.

 

The last of my "growing out" pictures that I will subject you to, ok. I know this post has turned into the "War and Peace" of Vox posts. Who knew I had done so many horrible things to my hair. And just think, I don't even have a copy of the classic "Afro-Fungus" perm pictures from 6th grade.

I don't do this one often. Steve's not too crazy about my hair when it is straight, but I like to change it up sometimes. I'm done with this. I think you all know what I look like now. After all that, I've come to one conclusion. I think, although I could be wrong, that I am getting better with age. Can't wait til my 40s!
