We are working on the Christmas tree. We got as far as the lights last night. We'll finish up the garland and ornaments tonight after Steve gets home from work.
Show us something sweet.

My six year old son, Josiah. He's the baby of the family and he's a real sweetheart.
I get the "Loser Mom" award today. I totally and completely accept it. It's mine. I deserve it.
We live in a pretty safe neighborhood. I'll admit, since the beginning of the school year, I've gotten lazy about taking the youngest three kids to the bus stop. My neighbor, also a day care provider, is always down there. Plus I have it timed so that they aren't down there more than 10 minutes max. I go down about 3 times a week usually.
I hadn't gone down all week and I was debating whether I wanted to go down today. The kids had already started walking down. I usually follow them in the van (I know I'm lazy, what can I say?). So I'm debating in my head, feeling guilty for possibly letting them go by themselves another day. Then the phone rings. It's my mom. She didn't sound like she was doing too well emotionally. I decided to talk to her, that the kids would be ok. My mom needed me.
About 5 minutes til 9 I hear the door open. I yell, "Hello???".
Josiah answers back, sounding all sniffly like he's been crying, "I forgot my bookbag."
I'm about to say that's ok, because I know he's upset about missing the bus. I look out the front window. There is the big yellow bus right in front of my house! The bus driver drove him down the street to take the poor despondent child to get his book bag! I felt about an inch tall.
I handed him his book bag and he ran back out the door. I watched as he climbed on the bus and the bus driver handed him a tissue.
So yes, I accept my "Loser Mom" award fully. And I'm taking the bus driver a dozen fresh cookies to thank her for being so nice to my son.
Growing up in a houseful of girls, I didn't have much exposure to Legos. I didn't get the things. I had Barbies and baby dolls. My cousins had legos. They had some that glowed in the dark. We would take them and hold them under the lights in their basement to get them glowing really bright. Then we would turn out all of the lights and play "Glow in the Dark Lego Tag". One person had all the Legos, they were "it" and everyone else ran around in the pitch dark while the "it" person launched the Legos at them. You knew you caught someone by hearing them yell, "Ouch!". It hurt, but it was lots of fun. But that my limited experience with Legos.
Before I married Steve I was vehemently opposed to Legos. I hated them. I had stepped on one too many duplo blocks in the middle of the night to want to add Legos to my household. Then I married Steve.
Alex had a huge plastic bin full of legos. I was dreading having to live with these things. Then we had a day off. Being an instant mom to five kids, I dreaded the long day ahead. "I'm bored", "There's nothing to do.", I knew it was coming. But something magical happened. All five kids, girls and boys hovered over that bin of Legos, all day. Almost 3 years later, they still aren't tired of them.
Being a family of five in a not so big house, we are very careful about Christmas gifts. We limit them to 5 a piece. Steve and I think long and hard about what we buy them. We don't want it to end up broken, under a bed and forgotten within a week. Legos are the one toy we don't mind spending a decent chunk of change on, because we know they will keep their imaginations running for years to come.
Sigh. I just love those guys. Even if my kids are way too old for them!

It was over two years in the making, but we finally redecorated our bedroom this summer. The first pictures were taken in March 2004. Second set in August 2006.
Have you ever Googled your own name? How did you feel about the results?

Yes, and I was relieved to find that the only thing that came up was a posting on an Ancestry.com message board about my last name. Luckily I have never linked my old blog to my real name. I would rather people not find that.

This is Schnitzel, S1's chinchilla. His nickname is Da Chilla-Chilla. We also have 2 rabbits, Iggie and Benjamin Bunny, but I'm on the wrong computer and too lazy to get up so I can put their pictures on here too.
It's rainy, cold and windy outside. I hate being rained on. I hate being cold. And I hate having my frizzy hair blown about.
We are having oodles of noodles for dinner, well, the kids are. I have baking to do, so I'm being lazy about dinner tonight. Steve is having leftover Spinach and Feta bites. Maybe some leftover mashed potatoes too.
I'm going to try another new recipe tonight. There is something about the holidays and the cold weather that make me want to turn on my oven and bake up a storm. I'm going to make Chocolate Bourbon Balls. I'm also making Sweet Potato Biscuits, Pumpkin Praline Dessert, and possibly something with lima beans, if I can find a recipe that sounds like it would be good. Of course, I have to make two batches of everything to take my parents and then Steve's parents house. So yeah, it's going to be one busy night.
Ok, I'm off to whip up some lovely noodles for the kids. If I don't stop in tomorrow, I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving full of lots of food and wonderful family memories!
