A Queasy Queasy Christmas

Well, I never did get "sick", but boy was I queasy on Christmas and yesterday. It really stunk. I did feel well enough in the evening to partake in "Singstar Rocks" with Steve's family.

Steve bought it for his brother. He really loves to sing. It was funny to see everyone warm up and start taking turns. My mother in law even sang "Respect". Although I think the highlight was Steve and his youngest brother singing a duet on "White Orchid" by the White Stripes. We ended up going out and buying it for ourselves. Although, I think it should have more songs to choose from. The playlist is pretty sparse, in my opinion.

Yesterday, I was queasy most of the day. Even water and green tea made me feel icky. I spent most of the day in my new pink terry cloth robe with my initials. My mom bought it for me. I've been wanting one for like the past 10 years. Steve said he never bought me one because he knows I would spend the whole day in it. Kinda like yesterday, lol.

I made myself get ready in the afternoon since Steve's sister and her family were up from Virginia visiting his mom. So we headed over there for awhile, then to the mall to return the pearl ring Steve bought me. I made out at Yankee Candle with my gift card. They had Sparkling Vanilla and Freesia candles "Buy One, Get One free", Island Mango for $10 a piece, and select votives $1 a piece, no limit. So I was able to get 4 big Yankees and 10 votives. Yay me! My house is going to smell so good.

Ok, I better get off of here. I have a contact lens check at 9:45am. I have to drag the 5 kids with me. I think we'll venture over to Target after. They all have money burning holes in their pockets.

Cheese trays and stomach viruses

My sister called. They want the kids and I to come. I'm not sure that I want to leave my hubby for 4 hours (2 hours roundtrip, 2 or so hours hanging out). But I do want to see my family. Plus I was supposed to bring the cheese tray. Rachael Ray just said the other day that the holidays are all about the cheese.

Yay! My family loves me enough to risk the stomach virus just to see. Either that or they love cheese that much. Either way, I'm going.

Ever since I went to see it on Thanksgiving with my sisters, cousin and a friend, I've loved it. Steve had never seen it until I made him sit down and watch it last year. For some reason, he had always thought it was set in the 70s, so he didn't think he would like it. It's a classic!

How did you find out the secret behind Santa Claus?

I was in kindergarten or first grade, I can't remember. I was sleeping upstairs with my 2 older sisters (my room was downstairs across the hall from my parents). They must have been in about 4th and 6th grade, I think. Anyway, we were up there, all excited, talking about Christmas morning when one of them said, "Mom and Dad are Santa Claus". I didn't believe them. Then they told me to go to the top of the stairs and peek down into the living room. Sure enough, there were my parents, loading up our stockings. I was so disappointed. I wanted to believe longer.

Almost there....

After venturing out with the kids yesterday for some holiday shopping, and basically coming back with junk from the $5 and under store and a shiny new pet rat, I decided I need to go out this morning. I chatted with Alisa for a good while before getting myself together. I sit in my lovely mini van and turn the key. Ugh. The children left the lights on the van! Steve called his dad to come rescue me, but he didn't get there til just after Alex and Victoria arrived home. So much for getting my shopping done early before it got really crazy. I did make some holiday goodies, although something went very wrong with my haystacks. The chocolate/butterscotch mixture clumped as soon as I added the vanilla. But they still taste good. They are just very ugly.

As soon as the 3 little ones came through the door, we all hopped in the van and took Victoria to some activity as her friend's church. Then the rest of us headed off to finish off my last minute Christmas shopping. I still needed to buy something for my mom, all the family gifts (we pick names), and food for Christmas Eve at my mom's house.

Traffic was horrendous and my nerves were frazzled by time we got to Target. Ashley decided it would be a good time to whine anyone's name if they came with inches of her or looked at her. It was lovely. But I did get everything I needed AND I remembered the things I forget to put on my list.

I was a good mom and took the kids back to the $5 store. There was more crap that they remembered that they wanted to buy. Plus I wanted to go back and get a couple more rolls of this really cute red and green argyle wrapping paper. Steve met up with the kids and I, looking very hot when he walked in the $5 store. Ashley loudly stated (she only has two volumes, loud and asleep), "Daddy, you look different!". Heh. Then we went next door for dinner at a local italian place. I finally found a place that sells an awesome chicken cheesesteak. Their pizza was really good too, real old school stuff, nothing like Dominos or Pizza Hut, just good old pizza. If we weren't already going to dinner with Steve's family tomorrow, I would have to go back and get another. Seriously, good food.

Steve headed over to the mall. Better him than me. *evil grin* He wasn't done with my stocking stuffers and there were some things I needed for the boys.

Now, here I am. I'm going to go wrap some gifts and then go pick up my oldest girl from the church. If I don't get back on til after the holidays, Merry Christmas to you all!

In the doghouse

Even though I allowed Victoria to buy herself a rat with her birthday money, Steve still loved me enough to bring home "Little Miss Sunshine" last night. Very, very good. As I like to say, "Painfully funny".

Still, I'm in the doghouse. I couldn't get a hold of Steve to get the ok on the rat. But we did recently have a hamster die and Alex was allowed to buy a chinchilla for his birthday, so I let her buy it. It's not that I allowed her to buy a pet, it's that it is a rat. I know, I know, you think all disease and pestilence when you hear the word "rat". Me too, up until this one. She's a pretty cream colored rat that Victoria named "Ginger".

Anyway, I need to get him out of his mood. He's not mean or vicious when he is mad, just kinda off. I don't know how to describe it. It feels more like he is disappointed in me. But he understands that I did call his cell and work phone a whole bunch of times and all. I just love him, and I'm so excited about Christmas and his gift. I just want to see him as his usual Christmas cheery self.

Unfortunately, I have to run to the store for some last minute stuff, so this is all you get today.
