We spent time with family. We ate italian sausages. We played a part in some couple's engagement story in front of the National Christmas tree. We opened our new pajamas. And I cried while trying to read our traditional Christmas books.

It was great to get out of the house after pretty much being home since Saturday. Steve's been driving the mini-van all week because his car doesn't handle well in the snow. A good time was had by all....even Mr. Bill.

I Am My Mother's Daughter

If there is anything my mother isn't known for, it's being graceful on her feet. My mother trips and bumbles over the smallest things, sometimes over nothing at all.

I don't know if you all have heard, but the East Coast is getting walloped with a blizzard. It started last night. Wasn't more than a dusting when we went to bed. I love a good blizzard as long as I have the luxury of staying home with Steve by my side. Actually, this is our first blizzard together now that I think about it.

6 am rolled around and the alarm went off. I forgot to make sure it was turned off so Steve and I could sleep in. Once it went off, I couldn't resist getting out of bed and looking out our window. Got up, 6 inches or so was covering our backyard.

Of course, once I was out of bed, my bladder informed me I needed to make a little trip to the bathroom before coming back to my warm bed. I gingerly made my way, attempting not to trip on the carry on bag I knew we had left on the floor from our little excursion to Virginia on Thursday.

Once I was done I turned all the lights back out. We sleep in the total dark. Once again, knowing round about where the carry on was, I walked carefully back to bed. I didn't trip over it. Nope, just lost my footing for no good reason and slammed the right side of my face into one of the posters on our four poster bed.

Steve woke up with all the commotion. He was insistent on getting me some ice. He also thought I may have had a concussion considering within 30 seconds I began laughing uncontrollably tears running down my face over my own bad luck. And because I could totally see my mother doing the exact same thing. He held the ice on my face for awhile then finally decided it was safe to let me sleep.

So far no bruise. My right eyebrow is swollen, I have a bit of a headache and that side of my face is sore. Luckily my bangs are long on that side, so I should be able to cover it up if it gets ugly just in time for the holidays!

The Cheat Is Overwhelmed, But I Am Not*.

It is well known that I tend to be a stuffer when I clean. As long as there are empty closets and baskets, I'll shove stuff in 'em and forget about it. However, there always comes a time when there are no longer places to stuff things and the house never looks clean because there is an abundance of stuff.

So, I'm cleaning my closets, emptying my baskets and cabinets. It's starting to feel like I can breathe again. I just need to stay focused, work on one thing at a time and not get overwhelmed by all the projects that need to be done. Luckily my house is small, and I do this every couple of months, so it's not ridiculous. But Thanksgiving is coming up and I'd rather my guests not be buried in a pile of old sheets and blankets when they open my linen closet. Or worse, have all the spices come down on their heads when opening my spice cabinet in the kitchen.

Things that make you go hmmm

Just wondering if I am the only person that tends to eat more when they are sick. It's like, I feel bad, so I go around the house eating whatever I can get my hands on hoping that it will be the magical thing that will make me feel better. In the end, I'm still sick and now my pants are tight too.

It's The Little Graces*

Sure, I've been sick for a week and a half now with a cold that is holding on like a pit bull. And swine flu has hit the kids' school (not my kids luckily). But there are the graces in life that make it all ok.

Like a husband that snuggles with me every night, doesn't complain when I'm still under the weather, and is going to bring me home a cheesesteak for dinner or a good hair day when I am still struggling to come to grips with the fact that I cut all my hair off. (Also helps the lead alien on V is a brunette that's rocking the pixie cut.) Or realizing I have all the ingredients to make Cranberry Almond Biscotti and having it turn out so deliciously.

Nothing like the grace of a warm cozy sweater on a beautiful Autumn day and the smell of biscotti baking in the oven. Or the grace of a silly fuzzy chinchilla that begs for my attention every time I walk by the cage. A 15 year old son that will still give me bear hugs and 14 year old daughter that will still curl up on the couch next to me and lay her head on my shoulder when she isn't feeling well. New music that warms my heart and brightens my day.

Sure, I have a lot I could complain about, but so much more that God has blessed me with. And that's what I choose to do today.

*I realize this post is a complete mess as far as punctuation and grammar. I am hoping God would give me the grace of an editor to fix it. (I'm looking at you, Cori.) ;-)

Things on Tuesday: Sick as a Dog Edition

Not liking:

Being sick. I've been sick for over a week now. Every time I think I'm done with it, it decides it can go another round. I'm sure Target is staying in business just from the amount of Theraflu and Tylenol Cold I've bought over the last couple of weeks. (Steve and Ashley were sick a week or so ago.)

Liking:

My hair. I did have a couple of days where I was really regretting cutting it off. Then I just starting to think of all the things I didn't like about long hair. Couple that with finally pretty much having the styling part down now, and I'm loving it.
NoiseTrade.com is awesome. Seriously, so much good free music. Just downloaded Alli Rogers. Never heard of her before today, but she's good.
Allie Moss. Not only is her album awesome, but she actually answers Tori on Facebook. That makes Tori happy which makes me happy. She's just good people. I wish I had the time/money to go to the Ingrid Michaelson concert on Wednesday in Towson. I'd totally bring them all some Nutella goodies because they are all cool, but especially Allie.
Wednesday night doctrine classes at church. It's just so good to dig down deep into the Bible.
Hats and scarves. Seriously men, how do you deal with the cold neck thing? I know how I do, cute hats and scarves. I'm guessing you all don't care to run around in fuschia berets and flowered sparkly scarves, but it helps my cold neck.
Steve. He's just wonderful and cute and I love him.
