Seriously, mango avalanches in the Safeway produce department (My fault, not theirs, they slowly walked away like they didn't know me!), discovering falafel at Costco (I think I just about gave them a heartache the way I reacted when I saw it), discussing whether the side effects of Alli are worth it (Tori, Soph and I say no way!) and going to Target 3 different times because I forgot something and I had a coupon (Let's go again, I have a checkout coupon for Heinz 57!). That's what you miss when you decide to stay home and not come grocery shopping with me.
It started out with a impromptu get-together at my house when Rob and Nicole arrived to pick up my nephew (I watched him while they were out of town) and Steve's brother, Rob and his wife, Kirsten showed up at the same time Sunday night. We all ended up sitting on the porch for awhile just visiting.
The kids are all getting ready for their summer trips with their dad/stepmom or mom/stepdad. Ok, I am getting them ready, either way, we are in the throes of packing/organizing, seeing who is missing what and whether everyone has a decent amount of underwear. The usual.
Dewitte said we get points for posting. So I'm posting. I want my points. Why didn't anyone tell me about the points?
- Packing, cleaning, and stuff for Spring Break. Alex and Ash are going to North Carolina. The rest of us are going to Nicole's house for the weekend. I hear someone is going over the hill this weekend, so we are going to celebrate.
- The yard. Yeah, we didn't do so hot last year on that yardwork stuff. So there's a lot to be done.
- Steve. Yup, he's on the list again.
- Chicken Bog
- Going to Nicole's
- Warmer weather
- Sour Cream Pound Cake
- Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (I sense a theme here.)
- Joshua Radin's latest CD
but I remembered. I was going to lament my sleeping issues this past week. Not being able to sleep sucks and I thought, "Poor Cori, I know how she feels now."
I bought 20 lbs of sugar of today. I also bought 25 lbs of white sugar and 4 lbs of brown sugar. I'm figuring it was a wise investment since I went through over 10 lbs of flour alone last pay period. I'm hoping I don't lose my baking mojo now that I've plopped down a chunk of my grocery budget to dry ingredients. Although, I don't really have a choice but to bake and create since I purposely didn't buy enough snacks for the kids' lunches. That will force me to bake. Yup, it will. Hungry whiny kids always force me into the kitchen. Feeding them is the only way to shut them up.
Things I'm lovin'
- Steak Stir Fry for dinner (Had a plethora of steak leftover from the weekend)
- Kids happy and playing in the pool
- Good books (I started A Great and Terrible Beauty and it's good so far. Thanks Kelly!)
- Weekend visits from Vox friends
- Whole Foods Organic Caramel Truffles (seriously, you must go buy some, like now, right now)
- Stacy's Parmesan Garlic and Herb Pita Chips (I'm addicted. Should've sent them home with Hannah.)
- Dinner and a movie in Alexandria with Steve and the 3 kids that are home (Irish food and Wall-E)
- Weezer's most recent album (Still enjoying the heck out of it!)
- Life being close to normal after weeks as a kidless couple
- My husband (He turned to me and smiled last night at the movies and I swear I felt all giddy like a school girl. We still sleep all cuddled up at night too. After 4 years. It's crazy. And he's perfect.)
Things I'm loathin'
- Nothing much right now. I've decided I'm not going to stress about the upcoming school year and all the supplies and crap I need to do til August. So the rest of July is going to be stress-free!
Sleep in.(11:40am counts as sleeping in,right?)Drink a pot of coffee by myself.(This is completely normal, right?)Clean up kitchen and realize maybe the kids aren't to blame for the house being messy all the time.(In my defense, I haven't really been home that much since Thursday.)Wash some clothes. (As much as I would like to ignore the laundry during my "vacation", I'm pretty sure I heard Steve say something about using his last pair of clean underwear this morning. Although, it was before 7am, and I was still half asleep. Either way, the hamper was full, so I figured it was better not to take chances.)Plan healthy dinner after 4 days of riduculously fattening food that has resulted in several pairs of pants being too tight.(There are plenty of places I need to gain weight but my backside isn't one of them.)Spend several hours on the phone with friends I haven't talked to in awhile.- Lay in hammock and start reading "Wicked" (thanks to Kelly lending it to me!)
- Make healthy dinner. (Sure I'm planning on making a healthy dinner, but carry out is just so easy)
- Curl up on the couch with Steve and watch an episode or two of Scrubs.
- Go to bed. (Have I mentioned how much I love my bed? It's awesome. Featherbed, down comforter, it's like sleeping on a cloud. Hmm, maybe I need to add a nap to my "to do" list...)
Things I loathe
- Forgetting to pack comfortable shoes
- Misty cloudy cold days
Things I love
- Going away with Steve on his business trip (it's like an all expenses paid getaway for me, not him)
- Parents that will come and watch the kids so I can go with him
- New comfortable shoes (forgetting my shoes was not part of an evil plan to get new ones)
- Clearance racks at the mall ($245 worth of clothes for the girls for $68, seriously, why do people pay full price?)
- baked sweet potatoes with gobs of melted butter
- finding over $100 in different gifts cards in an old purse
- Free breakfast and wireless internet at the hotel
- Finding a coupon for a free cup of coffee for Starbucks in the morning paper
- My in-laws returning from Florida
- Scramble (even if Steve Betz is getting better and beating me now)
- Peanut Butter Candy Cakes
- And last but not least, The Muppets. Seriously, who doesn't love the Muppets?
