Sleep in.(11:40am counts as sleeping in,right?)Drink a pot of coffee by myself.(This is completely normal, right?)Clean up kitchen and realize maybe the kids aren't to blame for the house being messy all the time.(In my defense, I haven't really been home that much since Thursday.)Wash some clothes. (As much as I would like to ignore the laundry during my "vacation", I'm pretty sure I heard Steve say something about using his last pair of clean underwear this morning. Although, it was before 7am, and I was still half asleep. Either way, the hamper was full, so I figured it was better not to take chances.)Plan healthy dinner after 4 days of riduculously fattening food that has resulted in several pairs of pants being too tight.(There are plenty of places I need to gain weight but my backside isn't one of them.)Spend several hours on the phone with friends I haven't talked to in awhile.- Lay in hammock and start reading "Wicked" (thanks to Kelly lending it to me!)
- Make healthy dinner. (Sure I'm planning on making a healthy dinner, but carry out is just so easy)
- Curl up on the couch with Steve and watch an episode or two of Scrubs.
- Go to bed. (Have I mentioned how much I love my bed? It's awesome. Featherbed, down comforter, it's like sleeping on a cloud. Hmm, maybe I need to add a nap to my "to do" list...)
I love fabric softener. Seriously, I do. Growing up, whatever Amway detergent my mom used, just didn't have a strong scent to it. I envied my friends whose mothers used Downy. I longed for my clothes to smell as fragrant as theirs.
As an adult, with my own household, with my own laundry, I realized I can use whatever I want now. I discovered though, that if I use the same fabric softener for too long, I become immune to the smell. It's strange. One day, I had a bright idea, I would buy a different kind every time I went on my two week shopping spree. So that's what I do. And my clothes always smell as fresh as a summer breeze....well, not any summer breeze I've ever smelled, but that's what the bottle says this week.
Wash 2 loads of laundry
Fold 2 loads of laundry Bribe girls into folding a load of laundry each
Put away 2 loads of laundry* Make each child put his or her own clothes away
Make killer lasagna for Steve, per his request**

Put away the rest of the clothes that are still in the suitcase from our trip Move clothes from suitcase to chest at bottom of bed
Hang up clothes that are on the chest at bottom of bed Hope that Steve will hang up clothes that are on the chest at bottom of bed because he enjoyed my lasagna so much

*I list each of those separately, because if I list them together I might not get to check any off. The "putting away" is highly unlikely to happen. Well, let's be honest, so is the folding.
**He seems to think I have never made him lasagna, ever. Not so, but he wants lasagna and he's such a good husband, how could I not fill this simple request?
Wow, I feel like I've been gone forever!!! Such a busy weekend and this one is going to be pretty busy too. Liz and Alisa are back in New England. I drove them back up to the airport yesterday afternoon. They really need to move down here or something, because now I miss them, but I can't just see them, and that's not fair.
I'm feeling very uninspired as far as blogging right now, and I hate that. I'm trying to think of some funny story, some anecdote from the weekend, but my brain is fried. It was just an all around good weekend. Lots of food and talking, two of my favorite things.
I think I'll go and get these kids ready for school. Maybe I'll find my inspiritation while I'm digging through the sock basket. It's amazing the stuff I find while I'm digging in there.
Isn't it pathetic that all of that laundry was ready and waiting in my laundry room to set up that picture? Granted, it's all clean. I have issues with folding and putting away, not the actual washing. But yeah, that's my laundry. Guess now that I dragged it out into the open I ought to go fold it.
Or at least put it back in the laundry room....
It's rainy and cold. A perfect day to stop all this cleaning and organizing, sit down with a hot cup of tea and relax. Except, I need to do our 2 week big grocery shop today. So instead it's off to Target to wander around with a big cup of green tea.
As for the cleaning, I itemized and bagged up 7 bags of clothes for the Salvation Army. How in the world we accumulated 7 bags of clothes to give away since the end of last summer I have no idea. That's like a bag of clothes for each of us. No wonder I always feel so swamped by the laundry. I am swamped by the laundry. But not anymore, hopefully. I have high expectations for keeping this under control for good, or at least until next weekend. Either one. I also cleaned the laundry room. It had way too many baskets of unfolded clean laundry. I was tired of the "find a pair of socks in 5 baskets in 5 minutes game". Ok, I'm confessing way too much about my slacker ways.
The garage was a mess ever since our summer remodeling projects. We painted our room and 2 of the kids' bedrooms. There were bins overflowing with toys and books we had boxed up to get out of the way. We never brought them back in. The kids were slowly going out, digging through bins and bringing junk back into their rooms, leaving a huge mess of stuff in the garage. I have reclaimed it, throwing away 3 bags 'o crap.
Then, when the kids came home from school I made them clean their rooms. I even helped so that it was done right. Not the way I did it as a child, pushing everything into my closet or under my bed. My best childhood cleaning trick, putting it all in a corner and covering it with a sheet, because that wasn't noticable at all, now was it? Why my mother let me get away with that kind of stuff I don't know. Anyway, their room are all clean to my specifications and that makes me feel like I can breathe again.
Well, I'm off to Target. I love grocery shopping, it's so relaxing. I'll be back to check in after I get all the frozen and refrigerated food put away, but before I put away all the canned goods.
If you could make a magic wish for a futuristic gadget or high-tech innovation, what would your item do?

Laundry. My item would wash, dry, fold AND put it all away.
I've been making sure I get up and get ready with the kids the last couple of days. Usually I wait until everyone is at school before I take my shower and get ready. I'm hoping that feeling more "ready" once the kids are out the door will translate into a more productive day. So far so good. Yesterday, I just about conquered the laundry. Today, I'm going to finish that up and make the rest of the house all clean and pretty. Funny thing about concentrating on just laundry, the rest of the house tends to look like it exploded.
Oh, and what is up with you people that like to do laundry? Seriously, I don't get it. I hate doing laundry. There is not one thing I like about it. Maybe I would like it more if there wasn't so much around here. Seven people tend to make a lot of dirty clothes. My biggest pet peeve is clean clothes in the hamper, especially when they are still on the hanger!!! Makes me want to pull my hair out.
I also need to go through the clothes we are giving away and itemize them before I donate it. You can take a much bigger tax writeoff when you do it that way. I don't give away nasty stained up clothes either. I throw away that stuff. I only give away stuff I would put on my kids if they still fit into it.
Yeah, I'm boring myself with this entry too. I'll try and come back later and make up for it.
What a wonderful day, filled with laundry, laundry and more laundry. Oh, and some dirty dishes. Nothing like catching up after a 3 day weekend. And that's with Steve decided it was time to purge everyone's wardrobes and reorganize them. Poor guy worked from 11am til 8pm and still didn't get it all done. I'm finishing up today. I would just like to know where all these clothes came from. I know we gave away at least 6 bags of clothes last year, and yet, there is a monster of a clothing mountain in the middle of my fireplace room floor. Seriously.
That is all of an update you get. My husband spent so much time on this, it doesn't feel right to be spending time here at vox playing around. That will have to wait til tomorrow when all the laundry is done and the house is sparkly clean.
